Boat-tailed Grackle - Atlantic
[Quiscalus major torreyi]
[Length 14.5 (Female) to 16.5 (Male) in. Wingspan 17.5 (F) to 23 (M) in.]
Boat-tailed Grackles breed along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts from Long Island, New York to the central coast of Texas.
The "Atlantic" birds have yellow eyes, while the "Gulf Coast" birds have brown eyes (a useful mark in separating them from the similar Great-tailed Grackle which occurs from Mississippi to California and inland from Ohio to northern California).
The two species overlap along the Gulf coasts of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Central Texas.
This male "Atlantic" Boat-tailed Grackle was photographed near a tourist stop along the Tamiami Trail in Florida.
Photo taken with a Nikkor 300mm ED f4.5 lens on Kodachrome 64 film.
