The male Purple Finch has a reddish strawberry tint on his head, upper breast, and rump. The lack of crisp streaking below helps to separate the male Purple Finch from the similar male House Finch. The Purple Finch breeds in mixed and coniferous woodlands, and coniferous trees in suburban areas throughout the northeastern US, across most of southern Canada, and down the Pacific coast.
