Common Loon

Common Loons occur in northern North America, Greenland, and Iceland.
In North America they are the universal symbol of the "wild north".
They breed in the northeastern US and all across Canada and Alaska.
This one, fading into drab winter plumage, was photographed in the late fall at Bodega Bay in northern California, USA.
