Snowy Owl
[Bubo scandiacus]
[Length 23 in. Wingspan 52 in.]
Snowy Owls epitomize the mystery and appeal of the far north.
They move south during the winter from their Arctic tundra breeding grounds, and occasionally "invade" the northern states of the US.
This one, showing the black spotting typical of a young bird, was photographed at an industrial site in Bayonne, New Jersey, USA.
Photo taken with a 300mm f4.5 Nikkor ED lens on Kodachrome 64 film.
