The Cliff Swallow breeds throughout all but the southeastern US, and all of Alaska and Canada except the far northern regions. It is one of the most common swallows over the central and western portions of its range, but is declining in the northeast. Cliff Swallows are the famous swallows which "return to Capistrano" each year at the San Juan Capistrano Mission in southern California.
