Upland Sandpipers are common breeding birds in grasslands and farmlands throughout the northeastern, northcentral, and Great Plains states of the US, the grassland prairies of central and western Canada, and eastern Alaska. They are declining over much of their eastern range, however. This classic "fencepost" pose was photographed at the Featherbed Lane breeding site in southern New Jersey, USA.
