Summer Tanager Bathing

The Texas Department of Transportation has created a "mini-oasis" at the Falfurrias rest area on Route 281 in southern Texas. A spray of water from a hose is collected and channeled to form a small marshy habitat. In the rocks at the edge of this habitat is a small, shallow pool which attracts birds to bathe and drink. The photo sequence below shows a male Summer Tanager enjoying the pool:

Summer Tanager 2. He wades into the pool, takes a last look around, and then...
Summer Tanager 3. On a hot afternoon, there is nothing better than a cool, refreshing splash...
Summer Tanager 4. "Now all I need is a towel!"
