Hairy Woodpecker - Eastern
[Dryobates villosus villosus]
[Length 9.25 in. Wingspan 15 in.]
The "big brother" of the dainty Downy Woodpecker, the Hairy Woodpecker is less often seen at feeders than its diminutive cousin.
It is, however, a common bird of forests throughout much of the US and southern Canada.
This female "Eastern" Hairy Woodpecker was photographed at Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, Michigan, USA.
Photo taken with a 300mm f4.5 Nikkor ED lens on Kodachrome 64 film.
