Prothonotary Warbler
[Protonotaria citrea]

[Length 5.5 in. Wingspan 8.75 in.]

Prothonotary Warblers breed throughout the eastern US in woodlands near streams or surrounded by water. They nest in tree cavities, unlike any other eastern Warbler. Their loud, ringing song, a series of "SWEET SWEET SWEET" notes, is a common sound in wet woodlands and makes them easy to identify. This Prothonotary Warbler was photographed at the Willows, Anahuac NWR, TX. Photo taken with a Nikkor 300mm EDAF-S f4 lens (EFL=450mm) on a Nikon D100 camera. (Date: April 17, 2005)
