The House Wren breeds across most of the US and southern Canada. The male's explosive song of bubbling notes is unmistakable as he stakes out his territory. The male House Wren builds many nests in any appropriate cavity within his territory in the hopes of attracting a mate. He is pugnacious and will even evict other cavity-nesting birds, such as Chickadees, who have already started nest building. This female "Eastern" House Wren was photographed as she brought food to her young in a "decorative" nest box which we had hung over the front door of our house in New Jersey, USA.
