Limpkin
[Aramus guarauna]
[Length 26 in. Wingspan 40 in.]
Limpkins are primarily found in Florida, but also occur locally in Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana.
Their loud, bugling calls sound a little like those of their larger relatives, the Cranes, and are often dubbed into movie soundtracks to lend an air of the "wild night".
This one was photographed in the the swamps of the Ocala National Forest north of Orlando, Florida, USA.
Photo taken with a 300mm f4.5 Nikkor ED lens on Kodachrome 64 film.
(Date: June 1982)
