White-tailed Eagles breed across northern Europe, Siberia, the Kamchatka Peninsula, and northern Japan. A few pairs have colonized North America's Attu Island, at the end of the Aleutian Island chain in Alaska. This adult, showing a grizzled head and neck (which grows lighter with age) and relatively short tail, was photographed near the Akan Cho Japanese Crane Refuge near Kushiro on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. Steller's Sea-Eagles breed along coastal Siberia and the Kamchatka Peninsula. The world population is approximately 6,000 to 7,000 and about a third of them winter on the northern and eastern coasts of the island of Hokkaido, Japan. These fighting Steller's Sea-Eagles were photographed along the shores of the Notsuke peninsula near Nemuro-Shibetsu on the island of Hokkaido, Japan as one male chased off a rival suitor.
