White-tailed Eagles breed across northern Europe, Siberia, the Kamchatka Peninsula, and northern Japan. A few pairs have colonized North America's Attu Island, at the end of the Aleutian Island chain in Alaska. This adult, showing a grizzled head and neck (which grows lighter with age) and relatively short tail, was photographed near the Akan Cho Japanese Crane Refuge near Kushiro on the island of Hokkaido, Japan.
