Spotted Sandpiper
[Actitis macularius]
[Length 7.5 in. Wingspan 15 in.]
Spotted Sandpipers breed throughout Alaska, Canada, and all but the southeastern and southcentral states in the US.
Their constant bobbing is a useful identification aid.
This Spotted Sandpiper, still showing much of its breeding plumage, was photographed during fall migration at Brigantine NWR, New Jersey.
Photo taken with a 300mm f4.5 Nikkor ED lens on Ektachrome 400 film.
